Volkswagen beetle fuel gauge - adjustment and repair

Diffferent voltage stabilizer (fuel gauge regulator) gives different values

The fuel gauge tends to show incorrectly. You can easily fix a mass problem yourself

It is more than that, not everyone has the skills or the equipment to carry out the repair.

In addition, the spare parts available on the market (transmitter, constant, display) show a high degree of creativity in the technical execution and even the original factory parts are different. We tested and compared it

Different fuel tank senders gives different values up to +/- 20%

What we do

Adjustment

The three components-  fuel sender, voltage stabilizer and gauge are matched to each other. If one is replaced, the display sometimes only works imprecisely. But simply corrosion can also lead to incorrect displays.

There is a need to repair / adjust the units

We check, test and adjust your components. By matching our reference values, we ensure that the fuel gauge shows correct.

If the sent voltage stabilizer is defective, we will rebuild it in exchange. The original look is retained. Our offered fuel senders are precise and  tested by us.

What we did before

I didn’t know before that the tank is full at 35 liters (short front end). 40 liters go in. Then the fuel is in the filler neck and the ventilation hoses. The tank sender itself is already completely filled with fuel at a level of 35 liters, which has no effect on the function.

We tested and compared the components individually using our test setup. This is how we determined the sometimes large differences. We use an original VW VDO tank sender from 1969 as a reference.

So we were able to find the correct values. Our parts gurantees the correct adjustment to OEM.  Using our fuel sender and voltage stabilzer correct function is guaranteed for this parts.

Our test setup. We filled the tank in 5 liter increments and determined the output values of the different senders.

Level at 35 liters content. Really full to overflowing. The sender is completely in the petrol. Of course it smells like petrol when more comes in and not everything is tight

Filler neck on the tank at 35 liters level. Every additional liter is in the hoses and above the tank sender.

Original Volkswagen VDO fuel sender from 1969. Serves as a reference with an original voltage stabilizer (electro mechanical type) and speedometer with display

We have compared three other, different fuel senders  to our original VDO encoder.
